Ethiopian World Federation, Incorporated (EWF) – Media, Photography, and Video Disclaimer

The Ethiopian World Federation, Incorporated (EWF), including all affiliated bodies such as Local 8, is committed to the protection of privacy, dignity, and legal rights of all individuals, particularly children and vulnerable populations, in accordance with Ethiopian law and applicable international nonprofit standards.

1. Consent Requirement (Ethiopian Law Compliance)

EWF strictly adheres to the requirements of the Personal Data Protection Proclamation No. 1321/2024, which mandates prior, informed, and explicit consent before collecting, processing, storing, or sharing any personal data, including photographs and video recordings.

No image, video, or identifiable media of any individual in Ethiopia shall be captured, stored, or disseminated without documented consent.
For children (under 18), verifiable consent from a parent or legal guardian is required prior to any recording or use.

2. Protection of Children and Vulnerable Individuals

EWF enforces a strict safeguarding policy:

Images or videos of children shall not be used for publicity, fundraising, or promotional purposes without explicit written guardian consent.
Even with consent, EWF reserves the right to limit or prohibit publication where such use may compromise the child’s safety, dignity, or future welfare.
Whenever possible, identifying details (names, locations, schools, etc.) will be excluded or anonymized.

3. Purpose Limitation and Ethical Use

All media collected by EWF:

Shall be used solely for legitimate organizational purposes (documentation, reporting, advocacy, or internal records).
Shall not be sold, transferred, or shared with third parties without additional consent unless required by law.
Shall not be used in any misleading, exploitative, or decontextualized manner.

4. Right to Withdraw Consent

Any individual or legal guardian retains the right to:

Withdraw consent at any time
Request removal, deletion, or restriction of any image, video, or personal data

EWF will comply with such requests promptly in accordance with applicable law.

5. Data Security and Storage

EWF implements appropriate administrative and technical safeguards to:

Prevent unauthorized access, disclosure, or misuse of images and personal data
Ensure data is stored and processed in compliance with Ethiopian legal requirements, including data protection and breach notification obligations

6. Third-Party and Volunteer Restrictions

Volunteers, staff, contractors, and visitors are strictly prohibited from independently capturing or sharing images or videos without authorization from EWF.
Personal devices (phones, cameras) may be restricted in sensitive environments involving children.

7. No Assumption of Consent

Silence, presence, or participation in EWF activities does not constitute consent to be photographed or recorded.

8. Limitation of Liability

EWF shall not be held liable for unauthorized media capture or distribution conducted by third parties acting outside the scope of EWF authority. Any such actions may result in legal enforcement and removal efforts.
